The Importance Of Choosing The Right Filtration System

The importance of choosing the right filtration system

Choosing an industrial filtration solution, whether for dry filtration or wet filtration, is a big decision. This decision, when you get it right, will spell efficient ongoing operations, great savings through equipment that will last longer, less replacement of parts and components and less expensive downtimes.

While the need for making an intelligent choice is appreciated, the ramifications of wrongly selected technology for a particular application is often not fully understood in our opinion. Frequently, filter choice is left to the filtration supplier, based on their understanding of your needs. While they could get it right, through educated guesses, the wrong decision is an expensive mistake that you’ll start to pay for in the short to medium term.

To begin with, let’s look at a few key things that can go wrong if you pick the wrong filtration system for your operations.

1. The most common liquid filtration issue is foaming. This results in a significant loss of output, which translates to a loss of dollars through missed revenue opportunities.
2. Choosing a filtration system that is not large enough for your needs will lead to inefficient operation as well. Your equipment will soon begin to have expensive maintenance needs that in addition to being a budget buster will result in frustration among operators and associated downtimes.
3. Choosing a system that is not up to specification can also interfere with your quality standards. Non-compliance can mean hefty fines and many associated processes being shut down, which means further downtimes.
4. Equally important, inadequately filtered substances can have a serious environmental impact, both during production and disposal.

Recognizing that filters and filtration systems are a critical component of any operational process is necessary. Here are a few points to help you get started on the decision-making process for your next filtration requirement.

1. Design first.

Start considering filtration at the design stage, and you will dramatically increase the performance of your facility. This decision needs to be an internal one, made by your engineers, fully taking into account your operations. Ensure there is no disconnect between teams and ask all the right questions upfront before choosing knowledgeable suppliers. The ideal supplier, will, in addition to expertise, bring integrity and be able to provide satisfactory answers to any queries you have.

2. Consider custom.

Typically, the assumption is that custom equals higher costs. This, however, is not always the case. When the scale of operations merits it, and custom solutions are created specifically for your needs, the solution helps you reach optimum levels of performance. When performing at this level, you are less likely to have everyday issues and, in the long term, achieve efficiency that could prove extremely cost-effective.

3. Think support.

Even the best filtration systems are only as good as the support you get to expertly maintain them. When seeking optimal performance, remember that choosing a solution with professional technical support to back it is important. Suppliers that bring together an advisory component with the actual maintenance services you need are typically the right choice.
